Overview

This course introduces students to the science of Tajweed—the rules governing the correct pronunciation and recitation of the Qur’an as it was revealed. Taught by an instructor currently attending Al-Azhar University, the course follows the traditional method of Talaqqi, in which students recite directly to the teacher and receive individual feedback to correct and refine their pronunciation and recitation.

The goal of the course is to develop proficient Qur’an reciters who can recite the Book correctly. The course takes a practical, recitation-focused approach, with an emphasis on pronunciation, application of Tajweed rules, and correction of recitation. While the theoretical aspects of Tajweed will be discussed, the primary focus will be on practical recitation and developing accuracy through direct teacher feedback.

No prior knowledge of Tajweed is required, though students should have a basic ability to read Arabic script.
