Overview

Students will go through the unique characteristics and qualities of the Prophet ﷺ and the rulings that were specific to him ﷺ, along with clarifying the Ḥanbalī position in these issues. After the intensive Sirah course, it is highly recommended and beneficial to learn about these special qualities and rulings pertaining to the Prophet ﷺ

Learning outcomes

  • Identify and categorize the distinctive traits (khaṣāʾiṣ) of the Prophet ﷺ according to the recognized fiqh divisions: what was made obligatory upon him alone (al-wājibāt), what was prohibited to him alone (al-muḥarramāt), what was permitted to him alone (al-mubāḥāt), and the honors and virtues (al-karāmāt / al-faḍāʾil) bestowed uniquely upon him ﷺ.
  • Explain the evidences and underlying wisdom behind each of these specific rulings, understanding how they flow from and reflect his unique station ﷺ rather than functioning as arbitrary exceptions.
  • Articulate the Ḥanbalī position on the contested khaṣāʾiṣ, distinguishing rulings that are firmly established from those disputed within the madhhab or between the schools, along with Shaykh Marʿī al-Karmī's presentation of them.
  • Derive spiritual and practical benefit by deepening reverence and love for the Prophet ﷺ and recognizing how his distinctions clarify the boundaries between what is specific to him and what forms the general Sunnah binding on the ummah.
